Rotator Cuff Anatomy

3D orientation of the supraspinatus, infraspinatus, teres minor and subscapularis around the humeral head.

Detailed view

What to notice

  • The four rotator cuff muscles approach the humeral head from different directions and contribute to dynamic shoulder stability.
  • Supraspinatus, infraspinatus and teres minor insert on the greater tuberosity; subscapularis inserts on the lesser tuberosity.
  • Rotator cuff anatomy should be interpreted together with scapular position, deltoid function and joint loading.

The visual should be interpreted with the accompanying clinical context. PNA avoids using a single image or special test as stand-alone proof of a diagnosis.
