PNA Clinical Application Guide
Lumbar Quadratus Lumborum — Positional Ease
The chair that suddenly became a challenge — Step into the treatment room, follow the clinical clues, and discover what deserves the next decision.
Safety / do not apply when…
Stop for new neurological symptoms, severe unrelenting pain, suspected fracture or other red flags; refer as clinically indicated.
Avoid direct aggressive pressure over the renal/flank region and avoid positions that stress an unstable spine or recent surgery.
Do not proceed when a position of ease cannot be found without discomfort.
Clinical rule
A technically correct technique is not automatically a useful technique. Keep it only when the patient's pain, range or function improves in a clinically meaningful way, then transfer that gain into active movement, loading or self-management.
