PNA Clinical Application Guide
Lumbar Paraspinal Soft-Tissue Mobilization
The back that called itself 'locked' — Step into the treatment room, follow the clinical clues, and discover what deserves the next decision.
Safety / do not apply when…
Screen serious back-pain red flags and progressive neurologic symptoms before routine manual intervention.
Avoid pressure over recent trauma, suspected fracture, infection, severe osteoporosis-related vulnerability or unhealed surgery.
Stop for worsening radiating symptoms, new weakness, saddle sensory disturbance or bladder/bowel changes; urgent assessment may be needed.
Clinical rule
A technically correct technique is not automatically a useful technique. Keep it only when the patient's pain, range or function improves in a clinically meaningful way, then transfer that gain into active movement, loading or self-management.
