Safety / do not apply when…
Do not use sustained compression over suspected acute tear, local infection, fracture, hematoma or damaged skin.
Stop for numbness, electric shock sensations, worsening radiating pain or disproportionate discomfort.
Screen referred pain and neurological signs before treating a small tender region as a stand-alone diagnosis.
Clinical rule
A technically correct technique is not automatically a useful technique. Keep it only when the patient's pain, range or function improves in a clinically meaningful way, then transfer that gain into active movement, loading or self-management.
